4 Ideas for the Best First Birthday Party Ever

A child’s first birthday is one of the most exciting milestones you’ll share with family and friends. Make the most of this special moment with these 4 ideas.

Decorate the High Chair

The spotlight will be on your little one, so you want make sure their seat looks festive and fun. Tie balloons to the back of the chair and deck out the front of the tray with ribbons, crepe paper, or bunting. These adorable details will make every photo look extra adorable!

Make a Smash Cake

Your child may not remember much about their first birthday party on their own. Capture a special moment that will make both of you smile and giggle for years to come!

A smash cake is a small, single-serving cake for the guest of honor to touch, taste, and even (on occasion) eat! While the grown-ups help themselves to a traditional cake, the birthday boy or girl can go crazy on their own treat.

Tip: Smash cakes can get messy, so have a towel and a change of clothes ready to go. We also recommend putting down a plastic drop cloth to make clean-up easier.

Create a Time Capsule

Set up a table with blank cards, construction paper, scrapbook pages, pens, and markers. Ask guests to write a note for your little one—reliving memories from the past year, sharing best wishes for the future, or giving some advice. Collect the messages and store them in a box that your child will open on their 18th birthday.

They will love unpacking snapshots of their early days and reading words of love from the family and friends who have been with them from the very beginning!

Give the Perfect Gift

Baby's First Birthday Gift

Look back on your child’s arrival with the On the Night You Were Born Gift Set. As your little one grows, this personalized book and plush bundle will remind them how truly wonderful they are. This gift set includes a copy of Nancy Tillman's On the Night You Were Born and a Fresco Polar Bear Plush.

FAN REVIEW: "I bought this gift set for my nephew when he was born. On the Night You Were Born is a beautiful classic book that I had read to my kids every night after they were born—I wish the personalized version had been available then! My sister loved the gift. The Gund bear is the perfect pairing, and my sister already rocks her son while reading this story to him. I can't wait for when he gets bigger and understands the words." (BookMom)
